A few minutes up the coast from Wait and Sea sits one of our favorite spots in North Myrtle Beach: the Cherry Grove Pier. Rebuilt in 2022 after storm damage, it now reaches 985 feet into the Atlantic — and it's a great morning whether or not you fish.
For the anglers
The pier has a tackle shop and rod rentals, so you can show up empty-handed. A day fishing pass runs about $10, and if you just want to walk out and watch, it's a couple of dollars. Mornings are best — bring coffee and let the kids drop a line.
The inlet-side deck
Cherry Grove Pier has the strand's only inlet-side observation deck, a second-story perch looking back over the marsh and the Cherry Grove inlet. It's a quiet, breezy spot to watch the water and the birds, and a favorite for sunrise.
Make a morning of it
Cherry Grove Beach is calmer and more residential than the busier stretches — a nice change of pace for a family. Pair the pier with a walk along the marsh, a snack from the counter, and you've filled a morning for almost nothing.
Then it's back to the house to rinse the sand off and hit the porch.
